Marriage & Parenting (MAP)

The MAP class will return to parenting this year, beginning with a study of Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World: How One Family Learned that Saying No CanLead to Life’s Biggest Yes by Kristen Welch. We are inundated with nonstop advertising, urging us to find happiness in our next purchase. Far from immune, our kids pressure us to provide the necessary stuff to secure cool kid status. And it’s easy to capitulate. Join us as we consider a different way to live and lead our families against an entitlement mentality. Meeting in the Conference Room.

Genesis 1-11, Part 2

Continuing last year’s study of Genesis 1-11, this year’s topics include the first murder, a worldwide flood, and the Tower of Babel. These interesting stories are often taught in children’s Sunday School, but are they relevant to our lives today? Come learn how Genesis 1-11 provides an introduction and outlines the entire story of the Bible, how these chapters define the Biblical worldview and what that worldview requires of each of us.

Christian Discipleship

Building on last year’s What We Believe class, this year we’re going to consider the spiritual disciplines of the Christian life using Richard Foster’s classic, The Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth. In an age when depth of faith is shallow and the siren call of secular culture urges us to the perpetual distraction of social media, the 24-hour news cycle, and endless streaming entertainment, Christians desperately need to rediscover ancient Christian practices such as prayer, meditation, simplicity, and solitude. Led by Pastors Rick Marshall and Dave White (along with SLPC elders) may God give us grace to grow deeper roots through intentional spiritual practice! Meeting in Classroom 7.
