Missions Sunday: Called to Faith & Hospitality

May 1, 2022

“Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.”  Luke‬ 24:46-48‬

Each of us has been welcomed into God’s kingdom through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Our annual Missions Sunday is a morning to renew our commitment to bringing this good news of the risen Christ to our community and to all nations, in both word and deed! The call for us to bear witness to the gospel and to extend the same hospitality that we have received from God is a calling to each individual person as well as corporately to us as a church family.  This year’s theme Called to Faith & Hospitality will point us to ways that we can live out a “work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” I Thessalonians 1:3

9:00 am Churchwide Sunday School: This class will meet in the sanctuary and is for all adults and high schoolers. All regular adult classes are canceled so that everyone can attend this special class where we will receive Biblical instruction from our guest speaker, Rev. Rob Edwards, on Missions and the Church’s Essence and hear updates about our Missions program at SLPC.

10:15 Worship Service: Rev. Rob Edwards will also bring the message of Missions: The Result of Replicating the Gospel We’ve Received from I Thessalonians 1:1-10 during our worship service in the sanctuary.

11:30 Refugee Ministry Information: SLPC is launching a new ministry to serve refugees by becoming a Refugee Resettlement Co-Sponsor. Anyone interested in learning about how SLPC is preparing to be able to help resettle refugee families is invited to visit the information tables in Coffee Cafe after the worship service. Each table will present one aspect of the refugee resettlement ministry and how you can get involved.

Bless our Missionaries: Our church supports missionary families serving all over the world. Our Missions Team will be sending each missionary family a card with a monetary gift from our church family. If you would like to contribute to the gift, make checks payable to Springton Lake Presbyterian Church and note "Missionaries Gift" on the memo line of the check. Gifts can be mailed to the church office or put in the Sunday offering box anytime during the month of May.

Missionary Prayer Booklet: Be sure to take home an updated copy which lists all of the missionaries and missions organizations that SLPC supports and how you can be praying for them throughout the year.

Our guest speaker is Rev. Rob Edwards, assistant professor of Pastoral Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary with a focus on evangelism and missions. Rob has been a church planter and pastor, campus minister with Reformed University Fellowship (RUF), youth ministry director, and served with RUF on staff training and campus minister assessment. Rob and his wife, Angie, have three children: Emma, Lucy, and William.
