Jonathan Mindrebo ~ New Deacon

Jon Mindrebo I grew up in a Christian home with my parents and four siblings, and my dad was the principal at the Christian school that we all attended. We went to church every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night, and the knowledge of who Jesus Christ is was always there throughout my early years. I was 8 years old when I accepted Jesus as my Savior. My parents had taken us to a showing of Pilgrim’s Progress in a local movie theater. That was not at all an enjoyable experience for me!  The devil depicted in the movie caused me to think about where I would go when I died, and I wanted to be in heaven with Jesus. That fear drove me to ask my mom to help me say the salvation prayer, and after I said the prayer I felt that I was safe.

During my middle and high school years, I grew in my faith and was challenged by different mentors and friends to go beyond my initial conversion experience and grow in my relationship with Christ. The three key areas of growth for me during this time were sharing my faith with others, being a servant leader, and spending time with God in prayer and Bible study.

God’s calling me to work in Christian ministry started 11 years ago. I studied accounting and business in college with the goal to make money in business and help support the church and other ministries financially. I was four years out of college working for an accounting firm when I received a call from an unknown number. It was a board member of the Christian school where I had attended. He asked me if I was interested in praying about a finance director position at the school. I spent the next few weeks wrestling with God to know if He was calling me to this position. Soon it became clear to me that it was His will and plan for me to work at Timothy Christian School in northern New Jersey.

It was during my time at Timothy Christian School that I met Joni Calderwood who was teaching and planning the curriculum at the school.  In the 10 years since I started working in ministry, God continued to call me to work in Christian schools. After getting married, Joni and I decided to move back to PA, and I started working for The City School in Philadelphia.  In August 2021, the Lord led us to make a decision for me to work closer to our home in Newtown Square, and I started working at Delaware County Christian School as a finance administrator.

Joni and I now have three children – Owen, Charli Rose and our newborn, Miles. Joni is a stay-at-home mom and the Director of the Children’s Ministry, and I serve as a deacon.  My experience in positions of finance and operations at Christian schools has prepared me to be able to assist the church with the gifts He has given me to use for His glory. As a family, we are so thankful to be a part of the body of Christ at Springton Lake Church.
