60 Seconds With Michael Hines

How did you come to faith in Jesus Christ?

I had a fantastic spiritual moment in 6th grade. My older brother had his first teeth knocked out while sledding in the snow. Two hours later, after my grandmother called the dentist, I went out in the snowstorm, prayed, and found my brother's front tooth!

Is there a particular person or event in your life that had a big impact on your faith?

My wife and I were told by three different fertility clinics that we could never have children. God has His own plans. We now have two lovely children - Cole, aged 12, and Ella, aged 10.

How did you find Springton Lake Presbyterian Church?

The Chung and McKenny families introduced us to Springton Lake.

Tell us about your family. Where did you grow up and have you lived in other places besides Pennsylvania?

I grew up in northwest Indiana where my father was a steel worker in Gary IN. I went to college in Madison WI and moved to Philly in 1986 where I have been ever since.

What do you do for a living?

I sell commercial real esate for a Fortune 500 company.

What do you do for fun?

We enjoy our children, attending activites at Delaware County Christian School. I like to work out, hunt ducks, fish and spend time at our place on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

How do you see the gifts God gave you at work in your vocation or ministry?

I try to lead by example in a very sinful industry. I also try to meet with and give advice to any young college graduate who has an interest in commercial real estate.

What is one thing about you that most people would be surprised to know?

I love wood working, particularly finishing carpentery, and I am pretty good at it, thanks to the Lord.

What aspiration do you have for Springton Lake 10 years from now?

I would like to grow further in my faith. I also hope Springton Lakes helps by 5th and 7th graders grow in faith. I look forward to continuing to make Springton Lake a better church for others.

What book have you read that you think would be helpful to others?

Kingdom Man, which is a great book about the importance of parents, especially the dad, in their kids lives.
